Big feelings move through the body before they reach words. Start by naming what you see - flushed cheeks, fast hands, a quiet voice. Naming is not labelling; it is gentle company.

Offer two soft choices: a quiet space, or a slow breath together. Either is a win. Avoid asking 'why' in the moment - the thinking brain is offline. Wait until the body settles.

Use a feelings wheel with simple icons. Let the child point. Repeat back: 'You are pointing to frustrated. That makes sense.' Stay close. Stay slow.

Afterwards, write a tiny note in the vault: what helped, what did not. Patterns become kindness over time.
